The Isle of Light presents Seth Roberts, Ph.D., professor of psychology and author of the New York Times bestseller, The Shangri-La Diet: The No Hunger Eat Anything Weight-Loss Plan. His work has appeared in major scientific journals such as The Lancet and Behavioral and Brain Sciences as well as in The New York Times, Harpers and on Good Morning America. Chyrene Pendleton is the host of this fascinating discussion called, "A Simple, Healthy & Peaceful Way To Lose Weight Eating What You Want".

During this interesting interview, Dr. Seth Roberts describes how he used his scientific background to test his new theory of weight control, starting with his own body. He discovered he could easily lose all of the weight he wanted without giving up or changing the foods he already enjoyed.

Dr. Roberts shares how one can get started on the Shangri-La diet now. Many people may already have what they need in their kitchens, such as extra-light olive oil and flaxseed oil, making this probably the easiest, healthiest and most economical diet ever. Dr. Roberts says "it requires much less discipline than other diets" and that this diet is not about depriving oneself.

"You should eat a healthy diet but any food is allowed. That's part of the reason it works so well because you don't have to push yourself away from this or that. People tend to eat healthier, which is kind of surprising. When you start the diet, it's the junk food that seems to go first. But, in any case, there are no restrictions. It's not a diet that works because you stopped eating a certain kind of food..."

Dr. Roberts addresses those who are addicted to fast food and how the Shangri-La diet helps to remove their cravings. He also explains his theory about what he calls, "ditto foods" and how these kind of foods contribute to obesity in the U.S., including obesity in children.

For people who are already on a diet, such as Weight Watchers, Dr. Roberts explains how it can become much easier to do when they can add the Shangri-La diet to it.

The Shangri-La Diet can found in bookstores everywhere, on Amazon.com as well as on Dr. Robert's website. The Shangri-La forum, which currently has about 30,000 posts, can also be found on his website at:

In his book, Dr. Seth Roberts explains why he named this diet, "Shangri-La". He writes,

"I chose it partly because Shangri-La, James Hilton's fictional Himalayan community, was a place of great peace and tranquility; and this diet puts people at peace with food. Within days after starting it, all sorts of food-related struggles (irresistible cravings, too many food-related thoughts, uncontrollable night eating) usually go away. Another reason for the name was that Shangri-La was meant to be a near-perfect place and--not to boast--this is a diet with many advantages. It is simple, powerful, and does not require deprivation."
